Painting for presents

For my best buddies birthday earlier this month I painted her a portrait of her lovely dog Rooster. I wanted to do Rooster justice and tried my best to get a good likeness, I think it turned out well. I really enjoyed doing this painting and hoped kathryn would love it too, she did and it's now hanging in her living room. I'm not sure what Rooster would say about it though!
There's always that fear when you do someone a painting, are they going to like it?  Or just feel obliged to say they do to save your feelings, it's a risk I have to take!
Has anyone ever painted you a picture? Did you love it or loath it? What do you think of paintings as presents?
Hope you're all having a good week x

  1. HOW could she NOT love it! What a fantastic present. It really is good. I bet she was ecstatic. No-one ever painted a painting for me, but i did get a very strange 3D black curtain sculpture thing in a frame with a very odd poem on the back once. A young boyfriend professing his undying love. Most unusual.
Its always hard giving handmade gifts, i think you get to know who really appreciates them and who chucks them in the bin. To be honest, if you've put the time, effort and love into producing a gift for someone and they don't appreciate it, then the problem lies with them.
You're a good friend and Rooster is probably chuffed to bits!

  2. Actually, a lovely painting AND a lovely gifty idea! And yes, I got a lovely pen and ink drawing from a boyfriend very many years ago. It's still hanging in my home...no idea what happened to him, though...
Well, I say anyone should be happy to get a painting done by you!

  4. Aww! Isn't he cute!

Made presents are the most special as a lot of thought, care and love has gone into them, so much nicer than something mass produced.

I am given little made gifts sometimes by my girls and my heart always melts. The latest was a tiny handmade card left on my pillow thanking me for the lovely day out she had. It brought tears to my eyes.
