I forgot how tiny Martha is! The dresses are a little big for her but I think she wears them well! She's TOO cute! Check out those freckles

The sun is shining, the strawberries are ripening and it's a bank holiday weekend in Northern Ireland, it's so far been the best summer here in years!
Last weekend I bought two vintage scarfs from Oxfam Vintage in Belfast for a simple sewing project. A reversible scarf kaftan style dress.....
This dress was super easy to make, just take two scarfs bigger than your body, but them together and sew following my diagram below (sorry for the crap diagram! I am no computer whizz)
And there you have it, reversible dress or top, I'll be on the look out for more pretty scarves.
I got my hair did too, fancied a change from the blonde, I have to say I'm loving being a redhead again! Hope you're all having a great week! I'm off to enjoy this gorgeous summer evening xx

Did I tell you about my passion for sewing?
I'm gracing the pages of The Belfast Telegraph today, under the headline Sew Sexy! (OOh Laa Laa!) in a feature meeting people for whom sewing is a great passion in life. Everyone gets a mention 3 sisters, Gavin aka The big lad, mum, but I forgot to give my aul' Da a mention, so I'll give him one here. "Hi Dad!" Sadly though no mention of Mary and the chickens, I have to add they are essential to my sewing endeavours.
Bob actually laughed out loud when she saw the photograph of me (cheers Bob!) I do look slightly demented on the cover shot, and that I need a pee on the inside shot, hahaha
I'm going to have to frame this for the craft room wall!
A new programme starting in March on BB2 The Great British Sewing Bee will be a must see for all people who love to sew.
I'm away here to lock myself in the craft room for a hour.....I'll be tomorrow's chip paper Happy sewing everyone!

I've figured out why I've spent so many years procrastinating about making, sewing and crafting, I never had any material to make anything out of, that is of course until recently. Now it's a different story, I'm building up quite a stash of fabric and creating my little heart out. Four Fab new vintage fabrics waiting to be transformed....
I've been putting my sewing skills to the test recently, after making dresses for Martha, my buddies little girl, I decided to make some more to sell at the fairs I've been doing. My sister gave me a cute vintage pattern for a tunic style dress her friend Christine came up with the name, Wee Home Wrecker, perfect!
Here's a couple of the dresses I've made, I can't wait to make some more now I've got lovely new fabric and I think it's about time Martha got a new dress!
Or maybe some cushions?

I have a new hobby, from cushion maker to dress maker. My muse Martha, my best friend Kathryn's little girl. Martha is two, she's cute as a button and knows how to rock a vintage dress! Now when I see vintage fabric I'm thinking "Oooo that would make a really cute dress for Martha"
To make the dress, I drew a simple pattern onto newspaper, cut it out of the fabric and sewed it back up....

Hello! 200th post! Would believe it?
Just like Maria in The Sound of Music, I've used an aul curtain to make a new dress. All those years playing fashion designer with the fashion wheel and cutting up the Kays catalogue to dress paper dolls have paid off. I owe my dress making inspiration to my awesome 'wardrobe mistress' sister and the wonderful Vix from Vintage Vixen, Thank you ladies! So here goes..... The Rusty Zip is the best place in Belfast to find retro fabrics, I picked this pretty orange floral piece for just £7. To make a pattern I cut up a Primar kdress I never wear, drew around it, chop chop chop, sew sew sew, tried it on, pinned it in a little then sewed some darts, and to finish I made a little belt. By NO means this dress is perfect, but if you don't look to close it's not too bad, and it was really fun to make! Who knows the possibilities if I actually used a proper pattern!
I tell you, invest in a little sewing machine, (my machine) I can spend hours beavering away in my little sweat shop, the whole house vibrating, and the big lad shouting about no chores being done!
