The poor wretched little things, you will be amazed at how fabulous they will look after a little love and attention. Mixing grit in with the food will get rid of the soft shell. It wouldn't have been a 'bad' egg, just not quite packaged correctly. I would aslo advise that you cover your veg beds, or they will eat and scratch it all up. Well done you for giving them a nice life.
